A Month of Blooms: The Bearded Iris

In Honor of Wifey’s Birthday Today…

This is one of the favorites, in our bearded iris collection!  She is just beautiful, yet very mysterious. If I could name her, I would call her Edgar Allan Poe!

“There is no beauty without some strangeness.”

A Bloom Fit For a Faerie

This morning I took my morning walk through the gardens, knowing that our irises are just beginning to bloom.  It is extremely difficult for me to have a favorite flower, but I must admit, irises are at the top of my list!  I was not disappointed, for the blooms were magnificent.  Many seasons, due to late frosts, few of our bearded irises even bloom.  This has been the strongest year, in the past three years.  I guess there is something positive about a slow beginning to Spring weather!

It looks like the faeries will be arriving soon!  They have many beautiful new homes to choose from…

Irises have a beauty like no other.  The Iris is named after the Greek Goddess Iris, a messenger of the Gods who was thought to use the rainbow as a bridge between Heaven and Earth.  The Greeks believed that the rainbow was actually created by the many hued blooms of the Iris.    This unique flower can be found in virtually every part of the world, sharing the message of faith, hope and wisdom.

Here are a few of my favorite Irises, from our gardens…

Nature holds a message for us all.  Today, as you take in the beauty of Mother Earth, listen closely to the message she has to share with you…

“We often forget that we are nature.  Nature is not something separate from us.  So when we say that we have lost our connection to nature, we have lost our connection to ourselves.” ~Andy Goldsworthy
