The New Chicken Cottage

Over the past week, we have spent much time constructing the new chicken cottage. Yes, I know, my bird addiction continues!  This will be our 4th chicken structure, since Indigo Acres was established in 2014.  Last summer, we constructed the geriatric chicken condo, for the retired ladies.  They live happily there, basking in the sun and occasionally laying a few eggs.  Read more about that project here:   https://growingself.blog/2017/03/08/the-geriatric-chicken-condo/

For the past week, we have been focusing on our new structure.  Although it does not have a formal name, for now I will call it the “chicken cottage”.  I think it has a nice ring to it!  This structure will house our polish, silkie and bantam chicken breeds.  Oh, and a few quail, too!   As you can see, we have made some great progress in one week…

I think it is safe to take the wreath and bells off the barn. It is finally Spring in Michigan!

We still have to add windows, finish the roof and trim out the walls. Then, the fun part – painting!  Watch for more updates, soon! The goal is to have the outside complete by this coming Sunday! Cross your fingers!
