No Talkie Before Coffee

There is a rule in our home that is very simple: No Talkie Before Coffee.  As you may have guessed, I did not make this rule up.   Here are just a few reasons why…

  1. I do not like coffee. It simply tastes like bitter dirt!
  2. I so love mornings.
  3. I enjoy communicating, any time of day.

Although, I will never understand the coffee world, I do respect it.  I choose my battles wisely and abide by this law of the land, to the best of my ability. I am human and can’t be perfect all of the time…but only a few words will spill, I promise.

I am envious of those people who love their alone time and can easily survive by speaking only 1,000  miniscule words a day, MAX!  These individuals are truly gifted! When I try to not speak, I find the words just spill over, like balls at a batting cage, leaving the poor soul listening left to decipher my pile of “word spaghetti”. UGH!

To top it off, I have been told my entire life that I was too emotional.  Trust me, if there is a secret guidebook that spells out the step-by-step process on how to not FEEL life so deeply and differently than most, please let me know!  I am happy to send you a self-addressed stamped envelope to overnight it to me.

Although, I have learned to embrace who I am, I still wish a magical light switch existed to turn my emotions and words off for just a bit. (How about a dimmer switch…even that would help!)  But, I know me…

I share everything I feel.

I laugh as much as I cry.

Maybe it is just because I am paying such close attention to life…

Love Yourself…Embrace Yourself…Just Be You…

  1. I have this rule too. Susan ignores it of course – whilst taking great care to remind me not to talk to our friend Stephen before he has had HIS coffee when he stays. Even the noise of people talking on the bus to work annoys me in the morning.

That said – I love how you are Roda. Never change eh? You are magical.

  2. This 100% speaks to me. I’m in your canoe and have always wished to be able to switch my emotions off sometimes. In fact, I was thinking of making a similar post today because there’s things on my mind that need to be spilled. Great post Roda. ❤

  3. Roda, if you weren’t a talker I would be worried haha. Me, I’m the don’t speak, look, touch or come near me morning person always have been, always will be…Robin is the complete opposite so you can only imagine the fun he has during his tormenting morning wake ups for me!! I cry at everything! I’m worse than any Hallmark moment at the drop of the hat! My two dogs think they are human and try to answer me (after I’ve asked them a question) to the best of their ability and I understand them (most of the time 😉 ). AND yes, coffee is my morning addiction along with the birds singing and sunshine! ❤

  4. It would take more than one of those mugs full to get me to the “you may speak” portion of my day. As a kid I used to tell my mother that she shouldn’t feel like she had to fill every last second of silence on this earth. So what did I do? I married an extrovert.

  5. I don’t drink much coffee either, but more because caffeine makes me crazy 🙂 So I use tea instead, and indeed need that little bit of time to myself in the morning to meditate, pray, and just collect myself before the day ahead.

  6. Ooh you brought back so much memories… My mom was a coffee drinker and I could not say one word before she had THREE cups of coffee which mean we did not talk in the morning as I had to leave for school. It might be one of the reasons why I became a tea drinker instead. 😀 But she tamed me I guess. Now, I am enjoying the silence in the morning, which is good because my hubby is a coffee drinker! Don’t change Roda. We like you just the way you are!
