Flicker Here, Flicker There…

Weekly Photo Challenge – Variations on a Theme

The Northern Flicker is one of my favorite visitors to our winter feeders.  This little friend is a member of the woodpecker family and is about 13 inches tall, with a wingspan of 20 inches.

I love the little heart shape, on the back of his head.

    1. I need to get a few more hangers. It’s a bit of a hodgepodge right now. We have about 20 different feeders. Of course, he goes to the non-cute one. I was happy with how the shots turned out, considering I took them through the dining room window with my telephoto lens! Ha!

  1. Such a beautiful bird and pic, so inspiring… I could style an outfit with this in mind! Love the mix and match patterns, the earth hues with a pop of color, the heart shape on the back of this bird’s head… Nature and art, two of the things that inspire me the most. Thanks Roda. You are such a wonderful woman and artist. You also inspire me. A lot.

      1. It sure is a fun idea! Funny thing because I was planning to do something similar with Darren’s flower pics. I have not even told him this yet. Oh well, he will know when he reads the comments on your post. I will message you my thoughts later today!

  2. I love Flickers and I hear them in the woods surrounding our house all of the time. I’ve never had them come to a feeder, though. I have a pair of Hairy Woodpeckers and a few Downys, but a Flicker would be a treat! I just found a recipe to make “suet” at home using bird seed, shortening, and peanut butter. I’ll post it since I know a lot of my readers love the birds. Maybe your Flickers would like it! ❤️
