What is even more exciting than discovering a praying mantis? Two words…egg sac! I discovered this beautiful egg sac in the same buck thorn shrub that I found the second praying mantis. Most egg sacs hatch in the Spring, so I am not sure if this one will hatch. I am keeping a close eye on it, just the same. This sac could potentially hold up to 300 eggs!! Only 1/5 of the nymphs will survive to adulthood, but those that survive provide important pest control for our gardens. Time will tell… Another lesson in patience!
