A Date With Myself…

Harvest time is one of the busiest times for our little farm!  The garden is brimming with beautiful fruits and veggies that are ready to be harvested, processed and stored for seasons to come.  It is when I am most busy that I need to take a little down time for ME.  On Saturday, I did just that!    One of the most relaxing and therapeutic hobbies I enjoy is painting.  Painting is very much an emotional experience for me.  Time stands still.  Being the all or nothing person that I am, once the palette knife touches the canvas, I don’t stop painting until the piece is finished. I enjoy taking photos of the painting process.  It is fascinating to look back and see how it all came to be.

The room above our garage is one of my favorite spaces we have created.  Let’s call it, Workout Room meets Art Studio!

This is the entrance/exit door to our magical little space!
The workout equipment lives at one end of our happily painted space! As you can see, Wifey has added a bit of Halloween here as well!
The other end is where I keep all of my art supplies.  The natural lighting is great in this room and there are no pets, which is a wonderful choice with wet paint!

I spent about 4 1/2 hours creating on Saturday and it was a magical time for me. There were no interruptions, no chores and no worries!  It was the perfect time for a date with myself, some acrylics and a bit of creative magic!

A beautiful blank canvas!
I rarely use paint brushes… I use a palette knife 90% of the time.
The beginning…
Adding color!
There is nothing better than thick layers of paint!
The second sunflower begins to take form…
Adding detail and wrapping paint around the edges.
Creating leaves…
Final touches…
A few last tweaks!
And she is complete!

I enjoyed the final painting, but loved the amazing calmness I felt when finished even more than the actual piece.  Tending to my soul sets the tone for my entire day and a beautiful day it was…

What will you do for YOU today?

Love Yourself…Embrace Yourself…Just Be You…

  1. Love your studio space and I LOVE seeing this painting come together! I love painting, too, but I’ve been avoiding it for some reason. I will get there. Seeing your gorgeous sunflowers makes me want to squeeze some colour out of those tubes and onto canvas 🙂

  2. Oh my goodness! That’s absolutely beautiful. 🌻 Sunflowers are my favorite and that is just lovely. I love that it’s a big canvas giving you tons of room to paint. I’ve never painted with a palette knife before, so I think that’s really cool. Such a good job, Roda!💛
