Rainy Days…

Precipitation no longer seems to exsist here in West Michigan!   The gardens have been crying for rain!  Finally, on Thursday, we were given the gift of rain showers. My rain dances paid off!

I love a beautiful rain…until it is over.  Then, there is that smell!  That smell that makes me not want to leave the house…WORMS!

There are worms upon my sidewalk
“Hey, what’cha doing here?
You should be inside the ground!”
This really is quite queer.
They’re lying in the puddles,
Just as still as still can be–
Until I heard one holler out:

“Quit staring down at me!
Can’t you see we’re drowning?
Help us quickly, help us please!
Help us while there still is time,
I’m begging on my knees!”

“I’m not sure how I can help you,
But I’ll try, I will, I will.”

“Then hurry, hurry, hurry up,
While it’s daylight still.
Move it! Faster! Get us out!
Before we turn to mush.
Oh no, here comes your brother now,
I think he’s going to…”

  1. Excellent poem, very amusing πŸ™‚ And love the photos too, Roda πŸ™‚
But you caught me out totally when you said about the smell after the rain, I was expecting you to extol the virtues of that wonderful crisp fresh smell we get after heavy rain! Lol!

  2. ….and when they did their ‘rain dance’…. they did not dance FOR rain.
They danced IN the rain, as if it were already there, regardless of how things may have appeared in “reality”. πŸ˜€
